Five of our Favourite…Green Smoothies

Posted on July 19 2015

Green smoothies are an excellent on-the-go health fix

Green Smoothies. You can’t go wrong, right? Well, not quite. There definitely are some better for you than others. Here are some tips to make sure your green smoothies are giving you the health benefits you’re after.

  1. Green, Green, Green.

If you want to keep your smoothies healthy, make sure your alkalising greens are dominant. Think spinach, kale, cucumber and celery.

  1. Watch your choice of fruit

Try to stick to low GI fruit, so you’re not overloading your body with sugar. Low GI fruits include apples, grapefruit, oranges, strawberries & blackberries.

Use smaller quantities of medium GI fruits, such as banana, mango and kiwifruit.

  1. Don’t forget your added extras!

There are a lot of great options to add to your smoothies for an added health kick, to help fill you up, and to improve the taste. Here are some options:

  • Chia Seeds: a great source of fibre, and will help to fill you up. Add a couple of teaspoons to your smoothie.
  • Ginger, Cinnamon, Cayenne – all have added health benefits.
  • Avocado, almonds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds – all healthy fats.
  • Spirulina or chlorella – extra source of protein.

With all this in mind, here are 5 of our Favourite Green Smoothie Recipes:
